Qatar company considers investment in dairy business in Ukraine
The Qatar company Baladna Co Q.P.S.C. is reported to be reviewing the prospects of setting up a 25 thou. head dairy farm in Ukraine, the Union of Dairy Companies of Ukraine writes on Facebook.
The farm's daily production capacity is planned at 400-700 t of milk.
"We hope that the intentions of the potential investor will be successfully implemented, and it will attract the attention of the state to the need for a protectionist policy for the dairy industry in Ukraine. It should make the dairy industry attractive for business, otherwise, no one will invest in milk production and modernization of processing," the message reads.
As of 1 August 2021, cattle stock in Ukraine amounted to 3.22 mln head, 6.4% less than in the previous year's comparative period. The dairy herd was 1.66 mln head of the total, 65.9% down YoY.
NOTE: Baladna is 100% Qatari, and one of the largest cattle farms in the region, spreading over an area of 2.4 million sqm. The company's farm houses 24 thou. cows. Baladna supplies more than 95% of dairy products to the Qatari market.
