Ukrlandfarming has completely abandoned the usage of chlorpyriphos having replaced it with an insecticide from another group. As informed by Volodymyr Fantuh, Head of Ukrlandfarming Agribusiness Development and Innovation, this decision was driven by the company's sizable export of agricultural products.

"There was no problem finding products on the market that would replace chlorpyriphos. We chose products alike, but of a different sort. The contracts we had concluded for the supply of this product were terminated. Part of it was returned to the suppliers, and they accepted it easily," said Volodymyr Fantuh.

According to him, preparations based on chlorpyriphos are inexpensive, effective and have prolonged effect, which is why they are so appreciated by agrarians around the world.

Volodymyr Fantuh said that Ukrainian farmers, who do not see the prospects of entering the foreign market and plan to trade only on the domestic market, will continue applying it. But the exporting companies should completely abandon their use.

"Traders will require agrarians to control chlorpyriphos or write-off certificates for expended plant protection products. That's the principle China is working on now. It requires a complete list of the PPPs that have been used. The country wants to see the full cycle through. If there's something China is not happy with, it is giving up the export consignment. I think that the traders will put such conditions before the farmers too," added Volodymyr Fantuh.

As a reminder, chlorpyriphos accumulates most in sunflowers, soybeans and rapeseed because of the high oil content in these crops.
