TOP-5 world wheat exporters will change in 2017/18 MY — FAO

At the end of 2017/18 MY the top five world's leading wheat exporters will undergo noticeable changes in comparison with the previous season.

Such a forecast on October 18, was voiced by Natalia Merkusheva, expert of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in her speech at the agro-logistic congress Dnieper-Danube-Black Sea in Chisinau, APK-Inform reports.

"First of all, the change in the TOP-3 leaders of world grain exports should be noted. So, in 2017/18 MY the leading position will be confidently taken by Russia, which will increase the annual volume of grain supplies to foreign markets up to 32.2 million tons of wheat and wheat flour (in terms of grain) against 27.18 million tons a season earlier. The United States, last year's leader, with the result of 26.3 million tons will drop immediately to the third place. The EU countries will retain the second place (28.5 million tons). Also, Canada (20.5 million tons) and Australia (18.153 million tons) will switch positions in comparison with 2016/17 MY," the expert said.

FAO analysts note, that based on the results of 2017/18 MY, Ukraine will reduce shipments of wheat to 16.5 million tons after 18.08 million tons last season, which will allow it to maintain the sixth position in the top grain exporters.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine from the beginning of 2017/18 MY as of October 11, 2017 exported 11.27 million tons of grain, which is 98 thousand tons less than in the same period last year.
