In Ukraine 25% of grain is transported by road — Gorbachev

This season, 25% of grain in Ukraine is transported by road. Railway transportation remains a priority for agrarians.

This was stated by Nikolai Gorbachev, the President of the Ukrainian Grain Association, writes AgroPolit.com.

According to him, if considering the European logistics model, the situation is completely different. Only 10% of European grain cargo is transported by rail, while the rest is delivered by road and river transport.

"I hope that river transport will start developing in Ukraine. River transportation removes the load from the railway and roads. In Europe, 50% of grain is transported by rivers. But this is a long-term prospect, because it is necessary to build tugs, barges and river elevators," notes Nikolai Gorbachev.

In his opinion, the fastest way of delivery is road transportation.

"But at the same time we need an economic rationale for its use, as it competes with railway and rivers. When the price of delivery by road becomes 2-3 times higher than the railway, producers or traders will wait a few weeks more rather than overpay," Nikolai Gorbachev concludes.

Reference: the order to index tariffs for freight rail transport in Ukraine by 15% came into force on October 31. The indexation of tariffs by 15% is a compromise solution worked out during the negotiations.
