USPA to conduct dredging in the Bug-Dnieper-Lyman Canal
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) intends to carry out dredging in the Bug-Dnieper-Lyman Canal (BDLC), and also studies several options for its further development.
This was informed by Raivis Veckagans, the acting CEO of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), writes CTS.
One of them will allow Panamax vessels to enter the round-the-clock two-way traffic.
In particular, Raivis Veckagans said that it is planned to conduct dredging works in the near future in order to maintain the declared depths of the approach channel to the port of Nikolaev (13th knee of the BDLC). The estimated volume of works is 125 thousand m³, the cost — UAH 29.7 million.
"The most ambitious project is ahead: reconstruction of the BDLC in order to improve navigational conditions for round-the-clock ships passage. We are making efforts to attract international consultants from leading dredging companies. We consider several options for the development of BDLC: providing round-the-clock traffic of vessels up to 230 m in single-sided mode, providing round-the-clock traffic of vessels up to 230 m in single-sided mode with the creation of zones of divergence, providing round-the-clock two-way traffic of vessels with depth increase for calls of Panamax vessels with draft up to 70 thousand tons," said the head of the USPA.
Earlier it was reported, that the company Evrovneshtorg is building a new terminal in the specialized sea port of Olvia (Nikolaev), which will specialize in trans-shipment of agricultural products.
