In Ukraine in 2017 the yield of high oleic sunflower decreased by 27%

In Ukraine in 2017 the yield of high oleic sunflower made up 490 thousand tons, which is 27% less as compared with the previous season, informs AgroTimes.

According to Yulia Ivanitskaya, oil market analyst at APK-Inform, the decline in yield is due to the decrease in areas under high oleic sunflower by 23% to 200 thousand hectares, and due to lower yields, which decreased by 7% to 2.42 tons/ha.

The expert noted that in MY 2016/17 the areas under high oleic sunflower in Ukraine amounted to 260 thousand hectares, which is 90 thousand hectares (+ 53%) more than in MY 2015/16. High oleic sunflower had a 4.1% share in the overall areas of oilseeds in the country.

Gross harvest last year reached 630 thousand tons, and, taking into account segregation, made up 550 thousand tons (70%).

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine in September-October of MY 2017/18 exported 6.1 thousand tons of sunflower seeds against 25 thousand tons a year earlier.
