32% less sugar traded abroad in 10M 2017/2018

Over ten months of MY2017/18, Ukrainian producers exported 501 thou. tons of sugar, which is 32% less than over the corresponding period last year.

The National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine (Ukrsugar) informs that in June 2018 export of sugar totaled 67.6 thou. tons, which is 25% more than in the previous month.

"The main supplies of sugar in June were carried out to Uzbekistan — 51%, and Libya — 35%. Also, insignificant volumes were delivered to Azerbaijan — 5%, Armenia and Georgia — 3% each," comments Ruslana Butylo, Head of the Analytical Department at NASU Ukrsugar.

Reference: in 2018, the areas under sugar beet amount 280 thou. hectares, which is 13% less than in 2017. According to the forecasts of the Association, the production of sugar beet will decrease by approximately 10% and will make up c.13.1 million tons. Accordingly, sugar production should reach about 1.75 million tons. About 40 sugar plants will function in this season.
