Ukrainian grain exports in 2017/18 total 39.4 mln tons

Based on the data of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine (SFSU), in MY2017/18 Ukraine exported 39.4 mln tons of grain crops for the amount of USD 6.4 bln.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports that the key importers of Ukrainian grain in the reporting period are as follows:

  • Egypt — USD 724 mln (11.4%);
  • China — USD 594 mln (9.3%);
  • Spain — USD 459 mln (7.2%);
  • Indonesia — USD 375 mln (5.9%);
  • the Netherlands — USD 348 mln (5.5%).

The following crops dominate in the export supply structure:

  • corn — 17.8 mln tons for USD 2.86 bln (China — 16.4%, Egypt — 13.6%, the Netherlands — 12.2%);
  • wheat — 17.2 mln tons for USD 2.83 bln (Indonesia — 13.3%, Egypt — 11.8%, Bangladesh — 8.7%);
  • barley — 4.3 mln tons for USD 0.64 bln (Saudi Arabia — 41.2%, China — 19.3%, Libya — 6.6%).

The transportation of 99% of grain cargo was carried out by sea (39 mln tons).

The ports of Chernomorsk (22%), Odessa (19%), Yuzhny (19%) and Mykolaiv (18%) are the leaders in produce transshipment.

Experts also report that 306 thou. tons (0.8%) were exported by rail and 80 thou. tons (0.2%) by road.
