China becomes the key importer of the Ukrainian sunflower meal

Since the start of MY2018/19, China has imported 170 thou. tons of the Ukrainian sunflower meal, thus having become the key importer of this product, APK-Inform reports.

Among other importers are France (90 thou. tons), Belarus (72 thou. tons), the Netherlands (70 thou. tons) and Poland (64 thou. tons).

“In general, the pace of sunflower meal/cake exports from Ukraine at the beginning of the new season is still lower than the previous year. Thus, the September volume was lower by 33% than the corresponding indicator in 2017, the October volume — by 20%. In September-October, about 430 thou. tons of this product (–24%) were supplied to foreign markets,” analysts note.

In the coming months, analysts expect the increase in exports of sunflower meal/cake, and the final forecast for MY2018/19 is 4.7 million tons (+12%).

Responding to the growing global demand for protein products, Ukraine is strengthening its role in supplying oilseed meals to the global market. In MY2018/19, Ukraine may increase the export of all types of vegetable meals — sunflower, soybean and rapeseed.
