China sugar production forecast reducing

According to the March forecast, the Chinese beet sugar production will reach 1.35 million tons in 2018/19, 6 pct less compared to the previous forecast, Reuters reports.

The forecast for sugar production in China in the reporting period stands at 10.31 million tons (in the period from October to September 2018/19) — 9.15 million tons cane sugar and 1.15 million tons beet sugar.

In 2018/19, sugar cane plantations are expected to cover 1.24 million hectares, while sugar beet crops — 0.23 million hectares.

Sugar imports to China are forecast at 2.9 million tons.

As previously reported, over the three years of free trade with the European Union, Ukraine increased 1.5x its exports of agricultural products to the European Union compared with 2016 to USD 6.3 billion in 2018.
