Corn production forecast for Ukraine in 2019/20 improved, USDA report

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) experts project the growth of corn production in Ukraine up to 34 million tons in 2019/20, 1 million tons higher from the June forecast.

Analysts note that corn production in Ukraine is increasing through the growth of the area under the crop.

The USDA report indicates that the gross corn yield in Ukraine in 2017/18 stood at 24.12 million tons, while the production forecast in 2018/19 was 35.81 million tons.

However, according to USDA analysts' forecasts, corn exports from Ukraine should amount to 28 million tons against the previously forecast 27 million tons (2017/18: 18.04 million tons, 29.5 million tons according to the forecast for 2018/19).

The forecast for corn carryovers in Ukraine practically has not changed since the June forecast and has made up 1.61 million tons vs. 1.6 million tons.

As previously reported, the European Commission experts estimated that Ukraine had supplied 15.4 million tons of corn to the EU countries (65.3 percent of the total imports).
