NIBULON shipped 4.9 mln t of grain for export in 2019/20

NIBULON finished last marketing year with the result of 4.9 mln t of grains and oilseeds export. The company's core export crops were wheat (41.4% of the total), corn (34.6%) and barley (13.6%).

NIBULON officials noted that Indonesia remains the main destination country, which in recent years has preserved the status of one of the largest importers of Ukrainian wheat. Egypt is the second-largest market for wheat, Bangladesh ranks third.

"The growth in exports to Egypt was made possible by an increase in purchases by the state agency GASC. In 2020/21, NIBULON plans to continue fruitful cooperation with Egypt in the field of public procurement, and most likely this destination country will still be among the major importers of wheat shipped by our company," explained Myroslav Karabut, manager for the wholesale of cereals at NIBULON.

The company significantly increased shipments to Yemen compared to last year. The company notes that the local processors gave preference to Ukrainian wheat because of its rather high-quality indicators. Among other importing countries are the Philippines, Jordan and Tunisia.

"In the 2020/21 season, we see the potential to scale up shipment volumes to Morocco and Tunisia as a result of the growing demand for Ukrainian wheat in these countries driven by the production reduction drop in the EU, in particular, France, which historically remains the principal supplier to these countries. Besides, Pakistan, where the government has recently provided an opportunity for the private market to import wheat, may now be a new potential export destination, and it is expected that this country will procure 2-2.5 mln t of wheat during the year. Vietnam also remains among the new potential and promising destinations," Myroslav Karabut added.

China remains the main corn importer in 2019/20. Also, Egypt has become an important export destination for this crop, as well as the EU countries, Israel and South Korea.

In the 2019/20 season, grains, pulses and flour export from Ukraine totalled the record 57.2 mln t, 6.8 mln t higher YoY (2018/19: 50.4 mln t).
