Barley output and export from Ukraine anticipated higher in 2021/22

Barley export shipment from Ukraine in the second half of 2021/22 (Jan-June) is projected higher by UkrAgroConsult analysts. Grain market analyst Maryna Marynych says barley supply from Ukraine is 50% higher YoY in the first half of 2021/22 (July-Dec).

"The current season is marked by stronger export activity in the first half of the season owing to Chinese demand," observes Maryna Marynych.

In the second half of the season rather sizable shipments are also expected, she adds. Analysts have therefore increased the estimate of barley exports in 2021/22 due to a decrease in domestic consumption for the increased feed use of corn and a drop in food and industrial barley processing.

The barley production estimate for 2021 has also been adjusted, Maryna Marynych says.

Barley export from Ukraine as of Jan. 10 made up 5.28 mln t, 36% up YoY.
