Winter crops planting for 2023 harvest 26% completed in Ukraine

Winter rapeseed planting for the 2023 harvest was completed in Ukraine as of October 3. The crop covers 989 thou. ha, 100% of the planned area, the Agrarian Ministry reports.

Winter grains sowing is progressing in all regions of the country. The campaign has covered 1.2 mln ha, 26% of the planned areas, as of the reporting date (2021: 3.5 mln ha, 44%).

Planting progress by crops:

  • wheat: 1.1 mln ha, 27% (2021: 3.07 mln ha, 46%)
  • barley: 96 thou. ha, 14% (252.22 thou. ha, 25%)
  • rye: 35 thou. ha, 41% (105.69 thou. ha, 66%)

Winter rapeseed emergence in a field in southern Ukraine

In the week of September 26-October 2, winter grains were planted on 516 thou. ha. Agricultural producers of Ternopil region, a western region of Ukraine, have planted 32 thou. ha, which makes up 41% of the planned area.

Winter crops area in 2022/23 is projected to decrease in Ukraine.
