Ukraine makes first sunflower oil shipment in Grain From Ukraine initiative
Ukraine will ship sunflower oil in the Grain from Ukraine initiative for the first time. A total of 2,453.26 tonnes of refined sunflower oil is to be delivered to 5 countries — the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Palestine, the Ministry of Agriculture reports.
This year Ukraine has expanded the range of humanitarian products, according to Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Markiyan Dmytrasevych.
"We are committed to fulfilling our country's mission of ensuring global food security. And we are expanding the supply of humanitarian goods, as announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the second Grain From Ukraine Summit. We supply not only wheat, but also corn, peas, and now sunflower oil. This oil will be shipped in containers from the ports of Big Odesa," he said.
Marianne Ward, the WFP Country Director ad interim in Ukraine, announced that more than 200,000 tonnes of agricultural products have been shipped under Grain From Ukraine. To date, many donor countries have joined the initiative, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Luxembourg.
The first shipment of flour produced from Ukrainian wheat as part of Grain From Ukraine was delivered to Sudan in late February 2024.
