VITAGRO secures UAH 16 mln loan to produce electricity and heat from biogas
VITAGRO ENERGY has received a concessional loan of UAH 16 million from the Ukrainian Decarbonization Fund to install a biogas-powered cogeneration module for a period of five years.
The project will enable the replacement of about 2,300 MWh of electricity from the grid annually and cut CO₂ emissions by 974 tons.
At its biomethane plant, VITAGRO ENERGY will install a module for simultaneous production of electricity and heat from biogas. The electricity will reduce the company’s dependence on the grid, while the heat will be used for technological needs, including maintaining temperatures of 38–42 °C in the fermenters.
The project is expected to lower energy costs, reduce CO₂ emissions, and enhance the stability and quality of biomethane production, which VITAGRO ENERGY supplies to European clients.
The Ukrainian Decarbonization Fund provides concessional loans for energy efficiency and emissions reduction projects to legal entities, private entrepreneurs, municipal and state-owned enterprises, homeowners’ associations, and local governments. It is financed from a special state fund and other sources, including environmental taxes on CO₂ emissions and state borrowings directed toward supporting energy efficiency and decarbonization.
On February 7, 2025, biomethane produced by VITAGRO in Ukraine from 100% livestock waste was exported to Germany for the first time as a “test delivery,” totalling 720 MWh (~68,000 m³).
