Number of grain railcars heading to Ukraine's ports decrease
As of February 12, the number of grain railcars en route to ports declined to 9,336 units, down from 9,850 a week earlier. The figures were announced during an online meeting with market participants by Valerii Tkachov, Deputy Director of the Transportation Technology and Commercial Operations Department at JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, Elevatorist.com reports.
According to him, the decrease is linked to faster unloading operations at the ports of Big Odesa, which are currently handling an average of 1,122 railcars per day.
“We are gradually clearing these bottlenecks. The situation remains difficult due to strikes on infrastructure — junction stations, traction substations and power facilities. However, we continue to operate and are steadily improving performance indicators,” Tkachov said.
In the first ten days of February, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 932,400 tons of grain. This is 2% more than in the same period of January, but 11% less compared to last year. Average daily loading amounted to 72,250 tons, which is 10% below the January level.
