Sugar beet yields in western Ukraine nearly reached European levels — Kavushevska

In 2025, sugar beet yields in Ukraine’s western regions approached European levels. In particular, yields reached 77 t/ha in Volyn region, 75 t/ha in Lviv region, and 73 t/ha in Ternopil region — figures comparable to those of EU countries, said Yana Kavushevska, Chairwoman of the Board of Ukrsugar, at the Sugar World 2026 conference.

For comparison, the average sugar beet yield in the European Union stands at around 69 t/ha, including 72 t/ha in Poland and 79 t/ha in Germany.

Overall, the average sugar beet yield in Ukraine in 2025 reached 58 t/ha, marking a record high for the country. The average sugar content also remained high at 17.6%, Kavushevska noted.

High yield indicators were also recorded in Khmelnytskyi region — 65 t/ha, Rivne region — 63 t/ha, Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions — 55 t/ha each, and Vinnytsia region — 53 t/ha. Meanwhile, yields amounted to 45 t/ha in Poltava and Chernihiv regions, while the lowest figures were observed in Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions — 39 t/ha each.

Poltava region led in sugar content with 18.1%, compared to the national average of 17.6%. Sugar output reached 15.17%, exceeding the previous year’s level.

According to Ukrsugar, sugar beet acreage totalled 199,000 hectares in 2025, though it may decrease to around 170,000 hectares in 2026.
