Ukraine's ports increase agricultural cargo handling by 20% in first half of 2026

Ukrainian seaports handled 42.4 million tons of cargo in the first half of 2026, including 23.6 million tons of agricultural products, with agri cargo volumes rising 20% year-on-year, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reported in its channel on Telegram.

The authority said agricultural commodities again accounted for the largest share of cargo throughput. The increase was made possible by the coordinated efforts of port operators, growers, transport companies, seafarers and the Ukrainian military, which continues to safeguard maritime navigation.

At the same time, the USPA said Russia continues to carry out systematic attacks on Ukraine's civilian port infrastructure.

According to the authority, since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, 1,002 port infrastructure facilities have been damaged or partially destroyed, 221 civilian vessels have been damaged, and 283 civilians have been injured.

The attacks intensified in July. During the first two weeks of the month alone, Russia launched 23 strikes on Ukrainian ports and 17 attacks on civilian vessels, killing 11 people and injuring seven, the USPA said.

Those killed and injured included port workers, employees of maritime companies and foreign crew members serving aboard civilian vessels.
