Ukraine’s winter rapeseed sowing passes halfway mark
As of September 8, growers planted 747,900 hectares of winter crops for the 2027 harvest. The area increased by almost 292,500 hectares over the past week, according to Agriculture Ministry data.
Winter rapeseed sowing is progressing most actively. Farms have already sown 699,300 hectares, or 63.3% of the projected 1.1 million hectares. Over the past week, they added almost 254,000 hectares to the rapeseed area.
Winter grain sowing is only beginning to gather pace. Producers have sown 48,600 hectares in total, compared with 10,100 hectares a week earlier. The area therefore increased by 38,500 hectares over the week. The projected area for winter grains is 5.21 million hectares.
Winter wheat accounts for the largest share of the grain crops sown so far, at 42,000 hectares, or 0.9% of the projected area. The wheat area increased by 33,100 hectares over the past week.
Growers have sown 4,900 hectares of winter rye out of the planned 76,700 hectares, adding 4,400 hectares over the week. Winter barley sowing is progressing more slowly, with 1,700 hectares planted, up by 1,000 hectares over the past week.
Overall, Ukraine has so far completed less than 1% of its winter grain sowing plan, while more than 63% of the projected winter rapeseed area has already been sown.
