Ukraine harvests sunflower from nearly one-third of area, average yield at 2 t/ha
As of September 28, Ukraine harvested 3.36 million tons of sunflower with an average yield of 2.03 t/ha.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, sunflower was harvested from 1.66 million hectares, or 31.7% of the projected area. A total of 5.23 million hectares is expected to be harvested this year.
Growers in Poltava region have harvested the largest volume of sunflower so far — 552,000 tons, with a yield of 2.66 t/ha. In Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions, the harvest amounted to 531,400 tons and 524,200 tons, respectively. Yields stood at 1.77 t/ha and 1.76 t/ha.
In Kyiv region, producers harvested 323,300 tons of sunflower at a yield of 2.23 t/ha; in Mykolaiv region, 280,500 tons at 1.33 t/ha; in Odesa region, 204,400 tons at 2.04 t/ha; and in Cherkasy region, 187,600 tons at 2.35 t/ha.
Among the regions where harvesting has already begun, the highest yield is currently recorded in Khmelnytskyi region, at 3.51 t/ha. The yield stands at 3.36 t/ha in Lviv region, 3.07 t/ha in Vinnytsia region, 3 t/ha in Volyn region, and 2.84 t/ha in Ternopil region.
The lowest yield is currently recorded in Kherson region, at 1.03 t/ha.
