Transitional restrictions for Ukrainian farmers in the EU must not become permanent — Koretskyi

Transitional measures for Ukraine's agricultural sector during the country's accession to the EU must not become permanent restrictions on its participation in the European single market. This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi during the EU Enlargement Summit in Brussels, Ukrinform reports.

According to Koretskyi, Ukraine understands the concerns of European farmers and is ready to discuss transitional measures for the agricultural sector. However, such measures must address specific risks and include clear conditions for their termination.

“They [transitional measures — ed.] cannot become permanent restrictions on meaningful participation in the single market,” Koretskyi said.

He noted that Ukrainian farmers will need to make substantial investments to comply with EU standards while simultaneously rebuilding the country following Russian attacks.

Koretskyi added that Ukraine would bring new opportunities to the EU and strengthen competition, food security, agricultural processing, bioenergy, and European supply chains.

On November 5, the European Commission is expected to publish its annual EU Enlargement Report, which will assess Ukraine's progress toward EU integration and the implementation of reforms.
