Ukraine will increase grain production by 4 million tonnes — forecast

Production of grain and leguminous crops in standard weight in 2016 is expected at 64.2 million tons, which is 4.0 million tons more than in 2015. The average yield will make 4.48 t/ha (0.37 t/ha more than last year). It is reported by the press service of Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

The wheat harvest in 2016 is estimated at 26.1 million tons (-0.4 million tons compared to last year), barely - 9.5 million tons (+1.2 million tonnes), rye - 395.0 thousand tons (+4 thousand tons), oats - 510.1 thousand tons (+21.6 tonnes).

The estimated corn yield will make 26.1 million tonnes (+2.8 million tonnes), with the average yield of 6.15 t/ha (+0.44 t/ha).

At the same time, the sugar beet harvest will amount to 13.2 million tonnes (+2.8 million tonnes), sunflower - 12.9 million tons (+1.7 million tons), and rapeseed - 1.2 million tons (-581 thousand tons).

In addition, potato was harvested at 20.9 million tons (an increase of 50.8 thousand tons compared to 2015) with the average yield 16.07 t/ha (0.07 t/ha less) and vegetables – 9.0 million tons (176 thousand tons less compared to 2015) with the average yield of 20.82 t/ha (an increase of 0.21 t/ha).

It is noted that the sprouts of winter rape are obtained on the area of 782.5 thousand ha out of 845.2 thousand ha sown (93% of the sown areas); 642.8 thousand ha (82%) are in good and satisfactory condition, 138.2 thousand ha (18%) are in a weak and thinned condition, and 62.7 thousand ha (7% of crops) did not form sprouts.

According to the report, the examination of winter grain crops areas for 2017 harvest shows that out of 6.9 million hectares of sown areas, seedlings were produced on the area of 6.5 million ha (93% of the sown), 5.3 million ha (82%) are in good and satisfactory condition, 1.1 mln ha (18%) are in a weak and thinned condition, about 490 thousand hectares or 7% of crops did not form sprouts.

It is to be reminded that according to the IGC, the November forecast of world grain production (wheat and feed grain) in 2016/17 MY increased by 7 million tonnes to 2.084 billion tonnes compared to October forecast.
