Germany and France preserve the practice of building concrete port elevators
In Germany and France, grain silos are built of concrete in ports for transshipment and storage of grain, while metal ones are not highly popular.
This trend was noted by the participants of the L.A.B. project, reports CTS.
This is completely different from the current situation in Ukraine.
"In Ukraine, metal silos are built. For example, one of the American manufacturers, working in our market, gives 7 years of the warranty period for such silos. But we note that in conditions of proximity to the sea, corrosion processes should begin earlier. In France, even now they build concrete silos. Over time, such constructions are stronger and, according to French colleagues, can serve 100-150 years. We were impressed by such monumentality of the approach," says Pavel Plotnikov, the director of UTA Logistic.
He also emphasizes that by investing in the construction of concrete elevators, which are more expensive than metal ones, Europeans can plan a ten-year payback period. This is facilitated by the established rules and the stability of business development guarantees.
During the trip to France, the representatives of CTS and the Mariupol Investment Group (MIG) managed to visit the construction of a new grain terminal in the Atlantic port of La Rochelle. An interesting fact was reported by the chief engineer of the Groupe Soufflet terminals Alan Baranje, that the concrete silos of the elevator were built at a speed of 10 cm in height per hour. The height of the elevator is 45 m.
