Global sunflower production to reduce by 1.2 million tons in 2017/18 MY

In 2017/18 MY, global sunflower seeds production will reduce by 1.2 million tons to 48.4 million tons if compared with last year's indicator.

This is reported by APK-Inform with the reference to Oil World analysts.

According to preliminary estimates of experts, in the CIS countries the total gross oilseed harvest may reduce by 1.8 million tons (6%) to 26.4 million tons. At the same time, for Ukraine the forecast of gross harvest is reduced by 0.2 million tons to 13.4 million tons, for Russia — by 0.5 million tons to 11.3 million tons.

For the EU, the world's third largest producer of sunflower, the estimate amounts 8.7 million tons, slightly surpassing the result of the previous year (8.5 million tons), mainly due to the good harvest in France and Spain.

For Argentina, the crop forecast remained unchanged — 3.8 million tons, but analysts say that this figure may decrease if the sown area under the oilseed crops is lower than planned.

Reference: Ukraine in January-September 2017 exported 59.35 thousand tons of sunflower seeds for the amount of $24.53 million.
