Harvest of fruit and berries in Ukraine in 2017 totaled 2 MT

The harvest of fruit and berries in Ukraine in 2017 amounted to 2 million tons from 194 thousand hectares, with a productivity of 10.52 tons/ha.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the harvest as follows:

  • pomaceous fruit — 1.25 million tons from 104.4 thousand hectares, with a productivity of 11.94 tons/ha;
  • stone fruit — 563.9 thousand tons from 60.6 thousand hectares, with a productivity of 9.28 tons/ha;
  • berries — 126.8 thousand tons from 19.9 thousand hectares, with a productivity of 6.32 tons/ha;
  • nuts — 108.6 thousand tons from 13.5 thousand hectares, with a productivity of 8.05 tons/ha.

Among the pomaceous fruit, 1.08 million tons of apples were harvested from 91,000 hectares (11.86 tons/ha). Among the stone fruit: cherry — 172 thousand tons from 19.8 thousand hectares (8.66 tons/ha) and plums — 200 thousand tons from 17.8 thousand hectares (11 tons/ha).

Berry crops: strawberry — 55 thousand tons from 7.8 thousand hectares (6.86 t/ha). In addition, 403,300 tons of grapes were harvested from 40,3 thousand hectares (10 t/ha).

Earlier it was reported that a record harvest of apples is expected in Ukraine this year, provided that there will be no frosts in early May (which occur every 7-10 years).
