Oil flax exports in Sep-June 2017/18 declined 64%

In September-June of MY2017/18, 21 thou. tons of oil flax were delivered to foreign markets, which is 64% less than the exported volume over the corresponding period last season, UkrAgroConsult writes.

Since February 2018, monthly shipments of Ukrainian oil flax have dropped to 0.5-0.9 thou. tons.

The major importers of oil flax purchase 90% of the crop total volume. Among the key importers are:

  • Vietnam — 37%;
  • the EU — 36%;
  • Egypt — 7%;
  • Bangladesh — 7%.

Turkey, which was one of the key importers last season, imported only 0.2 thou. tons over 10 months of the current season against 5.3 thou. tons a year earlier.

Reference: the import of seeds to Ukraine in January-April 2018 was 44 times higher than the export of domestic seeds.
