Petro Poroshenko signs bill to stop land raiding

President Petro Poroshenko signed a bill on “Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on the Resolution of the Problem of Collective Land Ownership, Improvement of Land Use Rules in Massifs of Agricultural Land, Prevention of Raider Attacks and Stimulation of Irrigation in Ukraine".

This is reported on the President’s website.

As noted, the implementation of the law will create an effective mechanism for using massifs of agricultural land, create necessary conditions to prevent raiding and stimulate irrigation of land in Ukraine.

The law specifies the features of the use and disposal of land plots located in massifs of agricultural land, as well as field shelterbelts, which surround the massifs.

In particular, it spells out the right of owners and users of land plots intended for personal management and farming to use the plots to conduct agricultural business without changing the purpose of the land. It also establishes the right of owners of land plots of all forms of ownership to exchange such land plots.

Besides, the law defines the specifics of disposing of lands and the use of lands left in collective ownership after the distribution of land plots between owners of land shares. The law indicates that the lands of collective agricultural enterprises that no longer operate are to be recognized as the property of the territorial communities.
