New crop campaign exceeds 67 mln tons

As of November 22, 2018, the Ukrainian agrarians harvested 67.6 million tons of grain and leguminous crops on the area of 14.4 million hectares (97%) with the productivity of 4.68 tons/ha.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the following yields:

  • early grains and legumes — 34.3 million tons on 9.9 million hectares with a productivity of 3.48 tons/ha;
  • corn — 32.2 million tons on 4.2 million hectares (92%) with a productivity of 7.05 tons/ha;
  • buckwheat — 136 thou. tons on 108 thou. hectares (99%) with a productivity of 1.26 tons/ha;
  • millet — 78 thou. tons on 51 thou. hectares (98%) with a productivity of 1.54 tons/ha.

Harvesting of industrial crops has reached the following results:

  • sunflower — 13.8 million tons on 6 million hectares (99.8%) with a productivity of 2.28 tons/ha;
  • soybean — 4.3 million tons on 1.7 million hectares (99%) with a productivity of 2.57 tons/ha;
  • rapeseed — 2.7 million tons on 1 million hectares with a productivity of 2.61 tons/ha;
  • sugar beet — 13.3 million tons on 270 thou. hectares (97%) with a productivity of 49.3 tons/ha.

Along with the harvest, autumn sowing campaign is in progress. Thus, agrarians sowed 7.1 million hectares of winter crops (98%), with a projected area of 7.2 million hectares. In addition, winter rapeseed with a forecast area of 888 thou. hectares is sown on 1 million hectares (116%).

By FAO forecasts, the global grain production in 2018 is expected at 2 601 million tons, up nearly 10 million tons from the previous month’s forecast, but still 57 million tons (2.1%) below the 2017 record level.
