Spring grain crops planted on 75 pct of the areas in Ukraine

As of April 2nd, early spring grain and leguminous crops are sown on an area of 1.7 million hectares, accounting for 75 pct of the projected areas.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the following indicators of spring planting campaign in Ukraine:

  • spring barley — 1.2 million hectares (77 pct);
  • wheat — 118 thou. hectares (71 pct);
  • oats — 112 thou. hectares (57 pct);
  • peas — 247 thou. hectares (73 pct).

Sugar beet is sown on the area of 76 thou. hectares, 31 pct of the forecast areas. Sunflower sowing is carried out on 123 thou. hectares, making up 2 pct of the planned areas.

Fertilization of winter crops for grain was carried out on 7.4 million hectares or 97 pct of the forecast (2018: 3.9 million hectares).
