Sunflower sowing in Ukraine reached 1 mln ha and progressing

As of April 16th, early spring grain and leguminous crops are sown on an area of 2 million hectares, accounting for 91 pct of the projected areas. Sunflower is sown on 997 thou. hectares, 17 pct of the planned areas.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the following indicators of spring planting campaign in Ukraine:

  • spring barley — 1.5 million hectares (94 pct);
  • wheat — 149 thou. hectares (89 pct);
  • oats — 161 thou. hectares (82 pct);
  • peas — 279 thou. hectares (82 pct);
  • corn — 240 thou. hectares (5 pct).

Sugar beet is sown on the area of 193 thou. hectares, 78 pct of the forecast areas.

Fertilization of winter grain crops was carried out on 7.5 million hectares or 99 pct of the forecast (2018: 5.1 million hectares).

Since the start of 2018/19, Ukraine exported 40 mmt of grains including 13.7 mmt of wheat. Barley shipments exceeded 3.2 mmt, while corn was supplied in the amount of 22 mmt.
