Share of Ukrainian corn in EU imports reached 67 pct

In H1 2018/19, the share of Ukrainian corn in European imports accounted for more than 67 per cent. This was stated by Liza Malyshko, grain market expert at UkrAgroConsult, in the framework of the Black Sea Grain-2019 international conference.

The increased export of grain to the EU countries was the main breakthrough in the global market. Ukraine in this marketing year managed to edge out Brazil on the European market.

“There was a crop failure in Brazil which allowed our country to become a key supplier of corn to the EU. Ukrainian grain was supplied to Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy,” the expert notes.

In the current season, shipments of Ukrainian corn have increased to China, Egypt and a number of other countries.

The total grain production in Ukraine, provided the existing trends in yields, is expected to reach 66.5 million tons.
