Sunflower sowing campaign in Ukraine hit 84 pct

As of May 16th, 2019, sunflower sowing campaign covered 4.8 million hectares, 84 per cent of the planned areas.

Early spring grain and leguminous crops sowing in Ukraine is completed on the area of 6.3 million hectares (87 per cent). 

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the following indicators of spring planting campaign in Ukraine:

• millet — 29 thou. hectares (51 pct);
• soybean — 1 million hectares (56 pct);
• sunflower — 4.8 million hectares (84 pct);
• buckwheat — 17 thou. hectares (18 pct);
• corn — 4 million hectares (87 pct);
• sugar beet — 219 thou. hectares (90 pct);
• early spring grains — 2.1 million hectares (96 pct).

The forecast area of crops in 2019 is 27.7 million hectares, remaining at the previous year's level.

The sowing campaign of spring grain crops in 2019 is projected at a total of 7.2 million hectares, industrial crops — 9.2 million hectares, potatoes and vegetables — 1.8 million hectares, forage crops — 1.9 million hectares.
