Turkey dominates tomato supply to Ukraine in Jan-July

In January-July 2019, Ukraine imported 58.3 thou. t of tomatoes worth USD 37 million.

By the data of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, the key importers in the reporting period are as followed:

  • Turkey — USD 30.4 mln, 81.98% of supplies;
  • Poland — USD 2.8 mln, 7.58%;
  • the Netherlands — USD 1.3 mln, 3.59%;
  • others — USD 2.5 mln, 6.86%.

The export of tomatoes from Ukraine in January-July amounted to 1.81 thou. t for the amount of USD 2.4 million. Thus, the import of tomatoes to Ukraine is 32x higher from the export.

Previously reported that one of the key tomato processors in Ukraine, Agrofusion, refused to construct a plant for the processing of tomatoes in Kherson region because of emissions from the Crimean Titan plant which is located in Crimea annexed from Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February–March 2014.
