Key tomato supplier to Ukraine delivered contaminated cargo

On November 1st, 2019, a 23.5 t shipment of Turkish fresh tomatoes delivered to Ukraine was discovered to be contaminated with a quarantine organism, American tomato moth (Tuta absoluta Meyr), the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) reports.

The contaminated cargo was sent back to the originating country.

"In order to prevent such cases, a notification will be sent to the exporting country, Turkey, about the non-conformity of the cargo with the phytosanitary requirements of Ukraine," SSUFSCP said in a statement.

As a reminder, in January-September 2019 Ukraine imported 58.55 thou. t of tomatoes worth USD 37.25 mln.
