Land market in Ukraine to be inaccessible for foreign buyers — Presidential Commissioner

Farmland market opening in Ukraine is expected no earlier than October 1st, 2020.

Within a live talk at the Svoboda Slova Savika Shustera social-political TV-show, Presidential Commissioner for Land Affairs (non-staff) Roman Leshchenko announced that despite the farmland market liberalization in Ukraine, foreign entities and citizens will not be able to buy land.

"Turnover of agricultural land will start not earlier than October 1, 2020. There will be no large agribusiness representatives and foreigners participating in the market. There will be appropriate restrictions. President Zelenskiy has taken the initiative and will make corresponding changes," Roman Leshchenko said.

Earlier Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that only Ukrainian agriproducers and Ukrainian companies would be able to buy and sell agricultural land after the farmland market opening. Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk added that the sale of farmland would be realized through public transparent auction with the primary right of redemption by those who now work on the land.
