Pivdenny seaport goes for 15 mln t of cargo transshipment in 2019

Sea commercial port Pivdenny expects to provide for the transshipment of 15.1 mln t of cargoes by the end of 2019. This is informed by Aleksandr Oleynik, acting director of the state stevedore, Ports of Ukraine write.

According to him, the year 2018 was one of the most successful for the port in recent years.

"Indicators improvement and efficiency boost will be characteristic for 2020 as well. The plans for next year include an increase in transshipment volume by 1 mln t," he says.

Aleksandr Oleynik also notes that the traditional cargo flow has a limit, thus one should move towards diversification of the cargo base. There are also plans to invest in new technologies, purchase new equipment, which will speed up rail cars handling, increase loading rate, expand the capacity of imported cargo reception.

As reported, in 2019 Pivdenny seaport transferred about UAH 700 mln of taxes to the state budgets of different levels.

"In the next few years, privatization in any form of the SE "SMP Pivdenny" is unlikely to happen. The state stevedoring company, which transfers to the state budget more and at the same time develops, remains profitable. It is profitable at the moment to leave in under state administration," considers the acting director of the state stevedoring company.

Previously reported that since the start of 2019/20, Pivdenny provided for the transshipment of 5.77 mln t of grain cargoes.
