Pivdenny seaport 40 pct upsized grain transshipment in 2019

The seaport of Pivdenny boosted grain cargo transshipment by 39.6% YoY to 10.99 mln t, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) informs.

Transshipment of general bulk cargo in the port increased by 32.3% to 45.41 mln t. For instance, transshipment of chemical cargoes and mineral fertilizers increased by 5.9x to 834.53 thou. t.

The total cargo turnover intensified by 26.1% to 53.86 mln t compared to the respective period last year. The share of Pivdenny in the cargo turnover of Ukrainian ports accounted for 33.7%.

Handling of export cargo grew by 34.1% to 39.64 mln t and transit cargo by 25% to 6.94 mln t. At the same time, the transshipment of imported goods decreased by 2.5% to 7.26 mln t, while the transshipment of coastwise cargo — by 5.3x to 27.64 thou. t.

In 2019, the transshipment of liquid cargo in the port of Pivdenny improved by 12.8% to 4.29 mln t. Cargo transshipment structure includes:

  • chemical cargo — up by 12.9% to 2.55 mln t;
  • vegetable oil — up by 21.1% to 1.513 mln t;
  • petroleum products — down by 22.5% to 231.73 thou. t.

Transshipment of chemical cargo and mineral fertilizers in 2019 totalled 59.77 thou. t.

Since the start of 2019/20, Pivdenny provided for the transshipment of 6.23 mln t.
