Favourable market situation benefited Ascet Shipping grain handling

January volumes of Ascet Shipping's cargo handling in Berdyansk Sea Port (Sea of Azov) have surpassed those of the previous years: in the first month of 2020, the company transshipped 100 thou. t of grain.

"We practically every day have a simultaneous loading of four vessels. We operate at the USPA berths No. 2, 5 7 and 8. The company could have loaded more than 100 thou. t a month, but the weather made its corrections. There were frequent fogs and precipitation, and we had to suspend loading," explained Viktoria Abreeva, Director of Berdyansk branch of Ascet Shipping.

She specified that the key cargoes — wheat, barley, sorghum and peas — were shipped mainly to such countries as Turkey, Tunisia, Libya and Lebanon.

According to the director of Ascet Shipping Berdyansk branch, favourable market situation and weather conditions support the forecast that such intensity of transshipment will be maintained next month.

"It is very good for the second half of the marketing year. Usually, at this time the intensity was falling. But there is rich harvest, the Azov Sea is not frozen, and probably it will not freeze this winter, it simply has no time for that. Thus, we plan to work at the same pace. Judging by customer requests, the volume of transshipment in February will also be at the level of 100 thou. t," she added.

Since the start of 2019/20, staple grains export from Ukraine has reached 35.74 mln t vs. 27.3 mln t in the prior season's relevant period. As of Jan. 29, commodities shipment increased by 7.44 mln t from the comparative period of the previous year.
