Grains yield and quality indicators should improve with crop progress — expert

In the southern part of Ukraine, which was most affected by the dry spring conditions, the first yields are expected to be much worse from last year's. This was informed by Elizaveta Malyshko, the grain market expert at UkrAgroConsult.

"With the protein high enough, the grain will yet be hollow, with low natural weight," states Elizaveta Malyshko.

However, she says, quantitative and qualitative indicators will improve with the start of harvesting in most regions.

According to the expert, this year the share of milling wheat in the bulk yield will exceed 50%.

"May rains have improved the condition of wheat throughout Ukraine, except the far south. And the hot weather in June, accompanied by rains, favourably affects both the quality and quantity of grain," comments Elizaveta Malyshko.

She stresses that, according to forecasting models, such weather conditions will remain in the near future, contributing to the ripening of early spring grains, as well as corn and sunflower.Grain production worldwide (click for full resolution)
