Ukraine's new crop estimated at 68 mln t — Economy Ministry

The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine is estimating the grain harvest 2020 at over 68 mln t vs. the previously announced forecast of 65-68 mln t. This was announced at the press conference by Igor Petrashko, Minister for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine.

"We expect the new crop to total over 68 mln t. At first, we had a more conservative forecast, now we believe that the yield can be higher," said Igor Petrashko.

According to him, 20 mln t of oilseed crops (sunflower, soybean and rapeseed) are also expected to be harvested this year. Sugar beet harvest is projected at 9 mln t, potatoes at 20 mln t and vegetables at 9 mln t.

As a reminder, barley harvesting started in Odesa region earlier this week, and Mykolaiv region agriproducers started the new crop campaign on June 11.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of the Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and grain market participants will be signed on July 1 to ensure the projected grain export volume in the 2020/21 season.
