Grain export 2020/21: staple grains shipment reaching 9 mln t

Since the start of 2020/21, staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has reached 8.86 mln t.

As of Sep. 9, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 1.23 mln t (12%) from the prior year's comparative period, 10.09 mln t, the information-analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine reports.

Grain export structure in the reporting period:

  • wheat: 5.89 mln t, 18 thou. t y-o-y
  • barley: 2.34 mln t, 40 thou. t y-o-y
  • corn: 606 thou. t, 1.26 mln t y-o-y
  • rye: 1.4 thou. t, 0.5 thou. t y-o-y

In the 2019/20 season, grains, pulses and flour export from Ukraine totalled the record 57.2 mln t, 6.8 mln t higher YoY (2018/19: 50.4 mln t).

As a reminder, the Ministry for the Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and grain market participants signed the Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on Aug. 17, setting the limit for wheat export from Ukraine in the 2020/21 season at 17.5 mln t, rye 1 thou. t.

The ministry cut its projection for corn and sunflower production in Ukraine: the bulk yield of corn is expected at 33 mln t, sunflower at 14 mln t.

As of September 3, agriproducers in Ukraine harvested 41.8 mln t of main crops on 11.3 mln ha, of which grains and legumes make up 38.5 mln t harvested on 9.7 mln ha, or 63% of the planned areas.
