The South Agrarian Export Company (SAEC) covered 360 ha of its subsidiary fields in Mykolaiv region, RE (Research Enterprise) Pivdenne, with irrigation systems.

The company explains that the farmland in the south of Ukraine critically lacks moisture. In 2017, SAEC management made a decision to introduce irrigation in its fields in the area of risky agriculture, in Pivdenne fields.

"Five Valley sprinkler machines are now in operation on 370 ha. Of these, 63 ha are under sunflower and 297 ha are planted with corn," the company says in a statement.

Water is fed to irrigated fields from the Ingulets irrigation system.

The Accounting Chamber estimated the potential to increase Ukraine's GDP at 0.2%, or UAH 8.8 bln, if the total irrigated area was provided with operational sprinkling machines.
