SFGCU fined UAH 4 mln for air pollution

Prosecutors of the Specialized Environmental Prosecution Service of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine at the Supreme Court secured the recovery of nearly UAH 4 mln in damages from the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine (SFGCU). The company caused damage to the state as a result of atmospheric air pollution caused by 69 sources.

"Prosecutors proved that the company had been operating stationary sources of pollutant emissions into the atmospheric air for 9 months without a relevant permit. In accordance with legal requirements, a legal entity must obtain clearance for emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere from stationary sources," the statement reads.

SFGCU appealed the decision to the court, but the appeals court agreed with the prosecutor's arguments and left the defendant's complaint unsatisfied.

Previously reported that the SFGCU sustained a UAH 87 loss in 1H 2021.
