Brazil corn harvest 20% complete

Summer corn harvest in Brazil, which started in the second half of December, was 20.5% completed as of January 28, SAFRAS & Mercado reports. The total area of the first corn crop is 4.385 mln ha.
Corn crop progress in Brazilian states:
- Rio Grande do Sul 49.8%
- Santa Catarina 32.3%
- Paraná 4.9%
- São Paulo 3.5%
Other corn-producing states in Brazil have not yet started the campaign.
During the corresponding period last year, the harvest reached 14.4% of the total of 4.353 mln ha. The 5-year average corn yield totals 8.8%.
Earlier it was reported that corn prices in Chicago kept falling on Monday, January 31. The US March corn futures dropped by USD 0.10 per bushel.
