US, EU to construct temporary silos for grain at Ukraine's border: US President Biden

The U.S. and its European allies are coordinating efforts to export grain from Ukraine by rail. The countries are planning the construction of temporary grain storage facilities at the Ukrainian border, European Pravda writes.

President of the US Joe Biden stated that the grain cannot be exported from Ukraine by the Black Sea as it would be destroyed.

"We are working closely with our European partners to get 20 mln t of grain locked in Ukraine out onto the market to help bring down food prices. What putin's war has done is not only try to wipe out the culture of Ukrainians, decimate people, and commit innumerable war crimes, but he's also prevented the grain, thousands of tons of grain that are locked up in those silos, ready to be exported, but they can't get out through the Black Sea because they get blown out of the water.

The President said a plan was worked on to arrange grain exports from Ukraine through other countries by rail.

However, a rail gauge in Ukraine is wider than that in the EU — 1 520 mm. Temporary silos will be used for grain storage and its subsequent loading into the European railcars.
