Winter crops area in Ukraine 35% less from 2021/22 season

Winter crops planting for the 2023 harvest is ongoing in Ukraine. The forecast area of winter crops is 35% less than last season's — 4.7 mln ha. The reduction in the area was caused by the temporary occupation of territories by rashists, military actions and mining of farmland, stated the deputy minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Markiyan Dmytrasevych.

He also noted that in view of recent progress in the liberation of Ukrainian territories from russian occupants by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Agrarian Ministry has reasonable optimism that the forecast of 4.7 mln ha will improve.

The proportion of crops is shifting towards rapeseed on the background of a decrease in the sown area, said Markiyan Dmytrasevych.

"This crop costs more and its logistics is better for our farmers, although its production technology is a bit more complicated," he explained the shift.

Ukrainian agriproducers are reported to be fully supplied with seeds.

Winter rapeseed was 87% planted in Ukraine as of September 12.
