Winter crops planting for 2023 harvest progressing in all regions of Ukraine

Agricultural producers in all regions of Ukraine have started winter rapeseed planting for the 2023 harvest. Weather conditions are particularly favourable for the winter rapeseed campaign — 841 thou. ha has been planted, which is 87% of the projected area, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports.

Winter rapeseed planting has been completed in seven regions: Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Zakarpattya, Rivne, Ternolip and Chernivtsi.

Practically all regions of Ukraine have launched winter crops sowing. As of September 12, 157 thou. ha was planted, which accounts for 3.3% of the proj. areas.

Planting progress by crops:

  • wheat: 141 thou. ha, 3.5%
  • barley: 7.1 thou. ha, 1.1%
  • rye: 5.4 thou. ha, 6.4%

In the week of September 5-11, winter grains were planted on 149 thou. ha. Agriproducers of Chernihiv region, a northern region of Ukraine, progressed the most — they planted 21.3 thou. ha of winter crops (12.2% of the proj. area).

On the corresponding date last year, winter rapeseed sowing was 75% completed.
