Winter rapeseed planting for 2023 crop completed in Ukraine

Winter rapeseed planting for the 2023 harvest was completed in Ukraine as of September 26. The crop covers 961 thou. ha, 100% of the planned area, the Agrarian Ministry reports.

Winter grains sowing is ongoing in all regions of the country. The campaign progressed to 709 thou. ha, 15% of the planned areas, as of the reporting date (2021: 2.15 mln ha, 27%).

Planting progress by crops:

  • wheat: 622 thou. ha, 16% (2021: 1.95 mln ha, 29%)
  • barley: 65 thou. ha, 10% (126.72 thou. ha, 12%)
  • rye: 27 thou. ha, 31% (75.02 thou. ha, 47%)

Winter rapeseed emergence in a field in southern Ukraine

In the week of September 19-25, winter grains were planted on 298 thou. ha. Agricultural producers of Chernihiv region, a northern region of Ukraine, have planted 33.1 thou. ha, which makes up 37% of the planned area.

Winter crops area in 2022/23 is projected to decrease in Ukraine.
