Winter crops sowing in Ukraine 38% done

Winter rapeseed planting for the 2023 harvest was completed in Ukraine as of October 10. The crop covers 994 thou. ha, 103% of the planned area (2021: 1.03 mln ha, 97%), the Agrarian Ministry reports.

Winter grains sowing is progressing in all regions of the country. The campaign has covered 1.8 mln ha, 38% of the planned areas, as of the reporting date (2021: 4.7 mln ha, 60%).

Planting progress by crops:

  • wheat: 1.6 mln ha, 41% (2021: 4.2 mln ha, 63%)
  • barley: 154 thou. ha, 23% (389 thou. ha, 38%)
  • rye: 49 thou. ha, 57% (120 thou. ha, 75%)

In the week of September October 3-9, winter grains were planted on 597 thou. ha. Agricultural producers of Ternopil region, a western region of Ukraine, have planted 129 thou. ha, which makes up 61% of the planned area.

Winter crops area in 2022/23 is projected to decrease in Ukraine.
